Particulate Modeling of Sand Production Using Coupled DEM-LBM

چکیده

Sand production is a complex phenomenon caused by the erosion of borehole walls during extraction hydrocarbons. In this paper, sanding process in typical Thick-Walled Hollow Cylinder (TWHC) test numerically simulated. The main objective study to model particulate mechanism sand granular assemblies with different bonding conditions and examine effects parameters such as stress level cavity size on model. Due discrete nature particles, Discrete Element Method (DEM) chosen solid Lattice-Boltzmann (LBM) implemented simulate fluid flow through medium. A computer program developed using Immersed Moving Boundary (IMB) approach couple two methods fluid–solid interactions. After validated, simulations were conducted 2D models representing cross-sections TWHC samples under radial flow. results show that able capture complicated stages already observed experiments. also proves be promising tool parametric production. It successfully simulates aspects phenomenon, including scale effect, extension failure zones incremental stress, relaxation rapid particle erosion.

Coupled DEM-LBM method for the free-surface simulation of heterogeneous suspensions

The complexity of the interactions between the constituent granular and liquid phases of a suspension requires an adequate treatment of the constituents themselves. A promising way for numerical simulations of such systems is given by hybrid computational frameworks. This is naturally done, when the Lagrangian description of particle dynamics of the granular phase finds a correspondence in the ...

Micromechanics of Undrained Response of Dilative Granular Media 1 Using a Coupled DEM - LBM Model : A Case of Biaxial Test

16 In this paper the Discrete Element Method (DEM) is coupled with the Lattice-Boltzmann 17 Method (LBM) to model the undrained condition of dense granular media that display significant 18 dilation under highly confined loading. DEM-only models are commonly used to simulate the 19 micromechanics of an undrained specimen by applying displacements at the domain boundaries 20 so that the specimen...

Fluid Properties Effects on Sand Production using Discrete Element Method

Oil production may be accompanied by Sand Production (SP) in the weak sandstone reservoirs. Fluid flow is an important factor in transporting the separated grains and completing the SP mechanism. In this paper, the effect of fluid parameters, fluid flow, and fluid pressure on the SP is investigated by applying the Discrete Element Method (DEM). Parametric studies show that fluid velocity is red...
